The Heritage Hurl represents a close collaboration between US Hurling, Maher Handmade Hurls and Martin Storey, Wexford's All-Ireland winning captain from 1996.
These hurls are made to exacting specifications using Martin's match-day hurl as a template. These hurls hearken from the days of massive ground-strikes, helmet-less players, and "blood" substitutions being more of a suggestion than a rule.
Make no mistake, this is no display queen, although there's nothing wrong with that. These are 100% match-ready, playable hurls.
This hurl is 1/4-3/8 of an inch thicker than those in common use today. The handle/grip area is noticeably rounder in cross-section as well. While the bas features a smaller surface area, the toe is the same width as current hurls with a great, thick heel, ideal for really launching a ground strike.
If you intend to play with this hurl, we'd suggest adding ~2 inches to your normal playing length when ordering.
